I submitted to the "Main Menu Madness" jam!

I thought this game jam concept was irresistible and small in scope. It’s been a while since I published anything and I’ve been learning Godot so this was a nice fusion of incentives.

Super happy with how this came together, I got lost in the sauce in the end making the sound feel “perfect”, recording foley of my microwave with my Tascam DR-40 and cleaning samples up in Reaper, as well as integrating with FMod to make the sound designing a lot less tedious. The “running microwave” event has a decent amount of complexity and gave me an excuse to use looping & transition regions and other fun little features.

The other fun thing was successfully setting up a “clicked triangle to 2D UV space” script for clicking on the box. I was planning on doing incredibly sloppy/lazy hacks here, but decided to give “doing it for real” a shot, and it ended up not being too bad in Godot. There is a Subviewport scene that drives the render-texture being projected onto the box, and a script that translates mouse events on the 3d box into that space in a nice generalized way. Pretty proud of it on the whole!

The microwave front panel is also a Subviewport 2D scene with similar challenges, but there I went the hackier mouse event mapping approach since it’s just a flat surface.

Give it a shot, let me know what you think! There’s maybe ~60 seconds of content in here.
